Erin Fouse

Owner

This is Erin!

Erin has been in the education field for 17 years total and an owner/operator for 7 years. She began her journey with The Academy in October of 2013.

Erin has a biology degree with certifications in Secondary Education, General Science, and Environmental Science. Outside of work, she enjoys running, camping, love the beach, and being outside!

When asked "what matters most to you when working in child care?"

Erin said:
"As a young mom, dropping off my infant years ago, I can empathize with the emotions. I want our families to feel comfortable (like family) in our building, and with our teachers. I want them to know their child is loved and cared for, and their best interest is our number one priority. Our enrolled children often spend so much of their young lives with us - it is our responsibility to help raise them to be kind, caring, understanding, empathetic, hard-working, and educated little people. While I feel very strongly every child should receive an educational experience that is valuable and challenging, it is equally as important to me to help mold a kind, thoughtful, human being. We can be successful at that by showing love, concern, and understanding for a child’s emotions.... talking them through how they are feeling and putting names to those feelings... teaching the children to love and respect all people... and to give your best, whenever possible... but also to take care of yourself (through yoga, meditation, exercise and healthy eating), so you have the best to give!

Sam Pope

Director

Samantha Pope attended Penn State University and received a Bachelors in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Child Development.  Sam has

worked in childcare since 2011.  She is passionate about early childcare and education because she believes strongly in the development of young minds to become independent thinkers, emotionally strong, and well-rounded individuals, capable of many things.  Sam feels exploration in education for children in nontraditional ways is essential.  She feels that children can learn to be empathetic, kind, and giving people, who have a strong development of self and feel confident in being true to their own selves.

Rachel Thomas

I have been working in childcare for 6 years now. I have my associate's degree in communications. In my spare time I enjoy running and dancing. When I am not with my work family, I’m with

my wife and daughter. We like going on our boat with our family during the summer. We all spend every holiday together. Family is everything to us. My version of a classroom is positive energy from the teachers, showing the children we are here to take care of them while their parents are working, and making sure to play with them and teaching them new things every day. Being an infant teacher is amazing because I'm able to watch them grow and develop as well as learning new things from rolling over to walking.

Laulena Leighty

Staff

Hello, my name is Laulena (Lena) Leighty. I have been working with children for over thirty years. My favorite part of my job is seeing the moment when a child masters a concept they have

been working on. The look on their face is priceless!

When I am not at work I love spending time with my family. We like to go camping, swimming, and go on river floats. I have a special place in my heart for all animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses!

Here is a quote by Dr. Seuss that I love, I hope you like it too!

Love, Ms. Lena

"Don't give up! I believe in you all. A person's a person, no matter how small!"
